It appears that 16,000 coronavirus cases went unreported in England following a snafu in relation to using spreadsheets to manage and collate Track and Trace data.

The issue appears to be that the developers used XLS (with a 65,536 row limit) rather than using XLSX, Excel’s file format that has been around since 2007.

This equated to 8 days of incomplete data and an average of 1,980 cases per day missed on average.

The Track and Trace programme is under immense scrutiny by the public and peers alike.

If only there was a system they could have used to issue the data out to Track and Trace teams and see the progress of tracing eh!?
